Camera call for our place in Kaikoura, a gem of a stay. Sun shines as we start the long one to Lake Tekapo. There were some beautiful moments on the journey, none we captured on camera do them justice. The Southern Alps shouldered us for the second half of the journey. The coastal route at the start was dramatic. We saw more cattle in one field than we have ever seen before, then the same for sheep. Sections of straight flat road changed into winding roads clinging to mountain sides. We bumped into the 'Coast to Coast' bike race where there were fields upon fields of parked cars for some reason.
Replacing each other behind the wheel we covered the ground in six hours including a couple of stops. Sailing into Lake Tekapo late afternoon. Our view over the lake is wonderful. I washed the car again and after a trip to the supermarket and another fine meal cooked by Liz we waited for the Sun to set before venturing into the darkness of the lakeside to do some stargazing. The almost full Moon spoiling it a bit, we got talking to a couple of girls from Malaya who were also stargazing. We swapped stories about the N & S hemispheres. With their help we saw Fomalhaut just before it set. They had nice apps. Talking of nice apps, Liz saw a Chinese shopping for wine by pointing her camera at the label only to have it translate the label into Hanzi.
Underneath is a picture of the Nursery Spiders nursery that I mentioned yesterday. It is about four inches tall gripping the top sprigs of a tall grass.
Xenophobia?! There is another installer on this island. Everyone is saying about this 'I could do that' and they are probably right. But honestly this direct and may I say, meaningless effort, is not worth a second look. Born out of boredome it is to high art, what bubblegum is to a concept double album by Yes at their most overblown.
